FAB absolutely rips up this track - one of the best I've heard in a while. Beat is slappin' and I really think FAB shines when he spits in his fast, intense mode. Some of you may be familiar with Alias John Brown from mixtapes, but I happen to know him from hustlin' outside AT&T Park 24/7. He's a cool cat to chill with pre or post game and he comes hard on the track. Props to DJ Devro for hooking up these two songs to give all you readers a special preview. So for all of you that don't know Big Von is the dude in charge over at 106 KMEL, one of the biggest hip-hop stations in the country. When the Hyphy Movement was in full force, picking up national recognition and bay artists were getting spins around the country, Mistah F.A.B. started hosting a show on Wild 94.9 called "Yellow Bus Radio" on Friday nights. Now this show was at the same time as a show hosted by E-40, and Big Von took it as a personal attack against his ratings and started beefing with FAB. Ends up, FAB gets a lifelong ban from KMEL (joining the ranks of Too $hort, among others), resulting in pretty much the hottest act in the Bay at that time losing all his radio spins and hometown backing. One thing led to another and hyphy soon died down(Peep this article for the full story). Big Von comes out of this whole mess looking like a selfish coward who put personal beef ahead of finally helping the Bay get the shine they deserve and were finally close to getting. 106 wouldn't even play Snoop's "Life of da Party" track on the radio because Mistah F.A.B. was on it. FAB really lets him have it in this diss. Don't be sleeping on FAB, he's been knocking stuff out lately and I got a whole lot more coming up very soon!

This is a really dope video. Mayne is often overlooked at the third member of The Team, probably because he hasn't been releasing material like Kaz and Clyde have been. I hadn't heard this song before but its slaps in a kind of updated Team way. Collin Tilley always does a great job with his videos and this one is no exception. This interview with Clyde Carson may have given me the best news in terms of Bay Area Hip Hop since I first heard Tell Me When to Go. THE TEAM IS BACK. Soon, at least. I know rappers are famous for not being 100% honest - in terms of release dates, other upcoming projects etc. - but Clyde is a charismatic dude and I believe him when he says it. The Team does not put out bad songs. Period. Let's hope they maintain their high standards and come out with some SLAP soon.

Apparently this is a Yung Berg diss. I don't really know what the story is between the two or if there even is a beef. All I know is in a bunch of songs Ya Boy says something to the tune of "They call me YB, but I'm not talking about Yung Berg". Perhaps it's the sharing of initials that instigated the feud. Who knows? All I know is that I'll be copping the Bay Area Bully when it drops August 28th.

I really hope "In Da Club (ft The Game & Sean Kingston)" is the single and blows up nationally because once other people get drawn into Clyde they are gonna stay.

Sorry for being away so long. I've been real busy getting my life together. While the past couple days have been stressful, at least the new Keak da Sneak is SLAPPING and getting me thru. This album was quite a surprise. It was far better than my expectations. I HIGHLY reccomend going out and getting it and supporting Keak - afterall he's a veteran and one of the longest standing Bay MC's.

By now you probably know that Turf Talk is my fucking boy. He comes HAARD on this song. The song GO in every sense of the word. This is definitely one of the ( if not the) best video I've seen from the Bay in a while. Another Prime Zero production - they be killing it. I really like the whole song and video, especially when Turf grabs ya boy's favorite 40 ounce from the store. Karizmakaze is nuts man, didn't know him before this but I will be checking for him now. I thought 50 Cal was good too.

OAKLAND — A 25-year-old San Leandro man who police were told was a promising rapper was shot to death Friday night at an East Oakland apartment complex.

Ayoola Matthew Odumuyiwa, who police were told performed under the name Pretty Black, was found with multiple gunshot wounds about 9:44 p.m. Friday in an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alvingroom Court, off MacArthur Boulevard not far from Castlemont High School.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. John Parkinson said Saturday that Odumuyiwa had relatives who lived in the complex. He said police are not sure how long he had been there or why he was shot. No arrests had been made.

Parkinson said police were told by relatives and friends that Odumuyiwa had appeared in some rap videos and had made some CDs.

The killing was Oakland's 56th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 40 homicides.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information can call police at 238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 777-8572 or 777-3211.

Mac Dre & Andre Nickatina - NEW Tale of II Andres

So there was a unofficial compilation with the same name same name that came out a couple years ago and was pretty weak. This one is NEW with unheard Dre verses, quality mixing and mastering plus new remixes on classic tracks. I think it's pretty cool that King Nicky put the necessary time into this project, for an album with these two certainly deserves it.

There are a couple recycles, but I'll let them slide simply because I love "Honeycomb" & "Neva Eva". The new tracks are all cool, including the instrumental called "Fillmoe-Vallejo". The Cadillac Girls Remix sounds nearly the same, with one layer of the beat removed, but "Toys Remix" was nice.

King Nicky has been doing his thang for so long. Honestly, from the unbelievable number of songs that he has put out, there are very few that I dislike. He honestly has triple digits good songs. While never getting any sort of mainstream success he may be the best known Bay artists, simply because kids all across the nation bump "Ayo" all day. No matter where I go people always know that song. I'm usually disappointed non-Bay people only know him for that one song, but occasionally there is one fan who is totally into him and has a decent collection. Anyway, the first two are new rips from his myspace and they are cool.

Fab sounds best oftentimes when he isn't going for that hyphy look. Not knocking his usual demeanor, but some of the highlights of "Baydestrian" and "Son of a Pimp" were songs where he just kept it treal. This is another one of those.

I'm gonna save some of the other good tracks for another post. Right now I got way too much stuff to post and not enough time. Keep checking back, I got that Mob Trial 3 and mucho slappers from one bay legend in addition to some other good stuff.

Go out and buy this CD. It's one of the few that will be worth your $12.

Been meaning to post this for a little bit. MP3 came out a week or two ago and I'd been holding out on it for some reason. Anyway, here is the video which just came out. It's got a raw, grimy, yet somewhat artsy feel to it that's really in your face. I donno, when I see it all I think is "Clockwork Orange" which absolutely frightens me to death.

The song was a response to Sean Bell's tragic murder. New York City police fired 51 shots at the unarmed Bell, who was on his Wedding Night. One of the officers had time to unload a full clip, pause, reload and finish the entire 2nd round. Game decided to make a song about police brutality and injustice after the cops were aquitted. Following his idols NWA, I read somewhere he was saying this is our generation's "Fuck The Police" - a response to the state of the relationships between police and young people.

The Bay has been buzzing about this song for a lil bit. While there certainly has been a lot of love shown to it, there is definitely demand for a remix. This is a good appetizer to get people thinking.

While I am not hating on Nelly's verses (I think he does a good job imitating), when there are Bay cats blended on this it sounds DOPE. The beat just sounds cooler, and has a more complete feel to it. Check it out. Apparently its DJ Smerk (who I don't know), but here are the bay verses

If Nelly could spit a dope Mac Dre verse it would put this song over the top. I really feel like this would be such a great track. Somebody who knows Nelly put this idea past him!!!

One of the most respected and longlived underground rappers, Tech N9ne been fucking with the Bay for a long time. The Regime features Yukmouth and Messy Marv in addition to Tech, so the connections have been there for a while. Kansas City, his home, has had a stronghold of Bay fans for a very long time. Mac Dre used to perform out there all the time - though it unfortunately eventually led to his murder. Regardless the Bay and KC have long had connections.

It seems as if they are reaffirming that rapport. This is off of his upcoming double album, which also features Scarface, Ice Cube, Paul Wall, Shawnna, and a special guest rumored to be Busta Rhymes or Twista. Tech N9ne also is going to appear on E-40's upcoming album "The Ball Street Journal" and San Quinn's "From a Boy to a Man", in addition to Sacramento's Brother Lynch Hung "Dinner and a Movie".

Tech N9ne - "Let's Go (ft Mistah F.A.B.)"

This song is fucking knocking. Great pounding beat with spirited verses on every 16. The hook is real tight too with the synth blaring. I had commented that FAB comes soft sometimes when he gets nice features. This is not the case on this track. Dude comes HARDDD. One of the best FAB verses I have heard in looong time.

Pack has got a new mixtape coming out soon. "Screaming Demons". I'm liking the songs I'm hearing lately. Honestly I wish "Based Boys" did better because that was a quality album but didn't get the push it needed from Jive. Also I think "Milky Way" could have been a better single than "In My Car", but that video was fucking MAINY. Felt like I was tripping on some hardcore drugs or shit.

Sidenote, I heard from a couple of buds on the East Coast that The Pack had been tearing it up on their tour earlier this year with Gym Class Heroes (who don't really Go). Hopefully they are picking up even more fans though. I know a couple girlies from NYC who actually are very up on them.

One of the best, if not the best, album of the year right now. #1 record at Rasputin's for a couple weeks straight. If you read this blog you should be more than familiar with The Jacka, but for some of you it may be the first time you hear Berner. Coming up from The City, Berner brings heat. He's a relatively new artist, so some people like to hate on dude, but he's doing big things. Honestly I didn't know much about him at all until recently, I had just read some people talking shit so I didn't have high expectations. That was a mistake. This album obviously had a good budget, with excellent production, good beats, and nice verses from everyone on it. Berner has got tracks lined up with big name artists like Bun-B so expect more from him soon.

Fed X, The Jacka, Berner, Bald Head Rick - "Battlefield"

Prob my favorite track off the album. A lot of his beats got a sample of some girl singing in the background and it really works. Bald Head Rick, apparently Coughnut's brother, comes clean for someone I'm not familiar with.

This song is too ridiculous for words. I'll be bumping my iPod hella loud while riding Muni or something and this song will come on and I'll need to grab a seat. At first I didn't get this track - my head would hurt after listening to it, I'd feel like I literally was gonna have a seizure, but for some reason I would listen again later. Then it clicked for me and I need to hear it a couple times a day.

Husalah & B-Luv - "Cuttin' It Up"

Then again I don't always understand Husalah's beats. They are like almost like nothing out there. Case in point: Husalah - "Projectz" . That isn't to say I'm not a huge fan of Husalah's music. On the contrary, he is definitely one of my favorite people from the entire Bay. Example 2: Husalah - "Stupid Dumb" . Never really heard a beat that is really someone beat boxing? I donno man, all I know is I still like this song.

You can actually understand Keak on this song. While I like his normal flow, it's a nice little switch to be able to comprehend his lyrics. This song is playing on the radio as well.

Jeasus - "Bay Way (ft San Quinn, JT Tha Bigga Figga)"

This track really grew on me. I think it's very solid. I don't know much about Jeasus, but JT and Quinn have been holding down Fillmore for a long time. My favorite part is when Quinn shouts out Ya Boy with the "16's" beat coming in.

Traxamillion hardly ever misses a step, always bringing dope beats. The City connected real hard on this track and the video looks like its going to be hella clean. I think this video turned out REAL clean. I like how NYC meets with The Town in this one. Favorite parts are when Keak is underneath the freeway looking real cynical, when he's posted up in front of the Welcome to Oakland sign with the fam, and when the camera zooms out and the BART train rolls on by. Real good look for the bay right here. With the video I think the other dudes' verses sound better too. I think this song will get more love around the country because of the big features.

Also, in XXL magazine Keak received a 3/5 for his new album. Not bad, it's rare a West Coast (Bay especially) cat even gets a review. I'm definitely gonna cop (and I highly suggest you do to) in order to support our the music being made out here.

Amplive's Rainydayz Remixes consist of an 8-track collection featuring remixes of Radiohead's historic seventh album, In Rainbows. The songs are available in a zip file below and feature verses courtesy of Too $hort, MC Zumbi of Zion I, Chali2na of Jurassic 5, and Del the Funky Homosapien.

After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive's Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.

While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publically available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. I got this song a little while ago and I gotta say it's probably my favorite song of the year. The dude is most likely someone you've never heard of but I insist that everyone give it a listen. It was actually just a lucky coincidence that I downloaded it.
One of my favorite beats I've heard in a long time. The lyrics won't blow you away with anything too profound but it does a good job of caputring the feeling of growing up in the Bay. The song as a whole does a great of capturing the sentimentality that is engrained in our blood. And beyond all that knowledge I was attempting to drop, all in all the song fucking SLAP.

Much Love To The Warriors

It was a pretty amazing season. 48 wins is nothing the Warriors should be ashamed of. Not making the playoffs is something the NBA should be ashamed of. The Warriors would wipe the floor with the Eastern Conference and it's a damn shame they didn't get their chance to shine in the postseason for a second consecutive season. If it weren't for their late season slump I have no doubt they could take out the Lakers in the first round.

Anyway, here are a couple jams about the Warriors. Granted they are from the 06-07 season, during our magical run against the Mavericks, but they are still slaps and can perhaps sooze some of our collective grief by reminiscing on better times.

Ya Boy - "Holla At Ya Boy (GS Warriors Remix)"

This song is fire. My favorite one for sure. The original is dope but I love this one even more because Ya Boy just can flow when he puts his mind on something.

Trackrunners - "Gametime"
This is another dope track. It quotes the classic retro New York gang movie The Warriors. You can't help but get amped when you hear, "Waaaaaaarriors, come out and plaaaaay"

San Quinn - "Warriors (I Got 5 On It Beat)"

Classic beat with some sick flow about how sick the Warriors are.

Keak da Sneak - Deified

I'm looking forward to this one. Keak looks like he's got some good connections on this album. Hopefully its got slap throughout.

"Bay Area mainstay Keak Da Sneak is hoping to turn his local celebrity into national success with the release of his long-awaited LP, Deified, next month.

The album will feature a slew of guest appearances from some of the left coast and the South's most respected artists including Too Short, E-40, Daz Dillinger, Lil' Keke and Paul Wall, among others. Keak also linked up with infamous New York rapper Prodigy of Mobb Deep and The Alchemist for the CD's first single, "That Go."

"Keak Da Sneak is one of the most important artists recording today," said Alan Grunblatt, general manager of Koch Records. "I am thrilled to have him on our great hip-hop roster."

The single, "That Go," is currently being serviced to radio outlets around the country and the video is slated to hit networks in the coming weeks. The first video, for the single “That Go” feat. Prodigy and Alchemist will be released and serviced to networks shortly.

Showcasing Keak’s trademark raspy baritone and off balanced flow, Deified continues the classic sound that Keak fans have come to know and love. With guest appearances from Bay Area’s Own E-40, Too Short, Mistah Fab, Jacka of the Mob Figaz, Daz Dillinger and also Paul Wall, Lil KeKe, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Alchemist and a few others. Keak has production credits from Mozart and Chops just to name a few. This album is long awaited and this release is sure to bang from the left coast and far beyond.

Deifiied is set for release on May 27th on Koch Records.
